I was asked by my client to design a house which will resemble Ottoman Architecture but will have a modern feel to it. In the Ottoman Architecture the traditional sitting areas are made up of long sofa’s called Divan’s. Long sofa it was. I gave it an L-shape and designed the buttom part made of wood and put carvings to give it a traditional feel. Then I designed the seating part a fat flat surface and used a fabric with no patterns or anything to make it look more modern. On the contrary to the seating part, I designed tha back part of the sofa thin with an angle and made it look as if it is hanging on to the seating cushions. I used large pillows with lines to make it feel more traditional. And here it was. A blend of history and present.
